Six years too long

Refugee rights activists rallied in Sydney on July 20 calling on the government to close the camps and evacuate Manus Island and Nauru. July 19 marked six years of torture for many people in offshore detention.

People chanted "Six years too long, bring them here" and "From Nauru to Mexico borders walls have got to go."

Speakers spoke about the need to defend Medevac and how people on Manus Island and Nauru have been slaves for a political agenda for the past six years.

The rally sat down at an intersection for several minutes, blocking traffic. Police refused to let protesters march through the mall, a traditional march route.

A groups of refugees marched at the front and held placards with their stories and suffering, many people found this very powerful.
