In possibly the strongest Sydney refugee rally this year thousands of people came out in the wake of the Nauru files to demand the government close the detention centres and bring the refugees and asylum seekers on Manus Island and Nauru to Australia.Here are some photos, videos and links to articles I did.sydney 27 aug refugee nda (12 of 46)sydney 27 aug refugee nda (21 of 46)

We need a complete change of approach, one that welcomes refugees however they arrive, including by boat, and to provide safe pathways for refugees to get here from Indonesia and Malaysia. The recent rallies marked a new stage in the campaign, one that we need to build on.

We are seeing the rise of a movement that has the potential to make it too politically costly to continue with this inhumane policy.That is why the establishment would like to see the movement weakened.

The Sydney-based action was part of more than 40 nation-wide that were initiated by Love Makes A Way and organised by local groups, including the Uniting Church.
